Royal Resin Voluntarily Recalls Retail Marijuana Products Due to Presence of Yeast/Mold

Royal Asset Management, LLC d/b/a Royal Resin, a cultivation subdivision of Frost Denver Dispensary, is voluntarily recalling retail marijuana plant material and pre-rolls (joints, blunts, etc.) due to the presence of elevated microbial counts. This voluntary recall is done in cooperation with the Denver Department of Environmental Health (“DEH”). Prior to this voluntary recall, Royal Resin had received process validation from the Colorado Marijuana Enforcement Division because its product had always met state mandated testing requirements for microbial contaminants. Prior to DEH’s investigation, Royal Resin had failed testing for microbial contamination prior to this voluntary recall and had no reason to believe that its products presented any risk to public health.

During a Denver Department of Public Health & Environment (DEH) investigation, samples of dried marijuana

(including flower, shake, and trim) were evaluated and contained potentially unsafe levels of residual organic microbials. Preliminary testing have shown a fixture of passed and failed tests for microbial contamination. In an abundance of caution, Royal Resin has decided to voluntarily recall certain products, and engage in extensive testing to ensure the safety of any remaining products coming out of its facilities. At the same time, Royal Resin is engaged in an aggressive effort to improve its procedures to ensure that no future product fails testing for microbials. 

Royal Resin has cooperated fully with DEH’s investigation and has developed an aggressive action plan to address any potential sources of contamination to ensure this problem does not occur in the future. Royal Resin will continue to engage in voluntary testing of future finished flower and is revising its standard operating procedures accordingly. Royal Resin has reached out to its current and expanding supply partners to insure their full participation in an overall quality assurance and quality control program.  Royal Resin has taken immediate, substantial steps to eliminate potential failed tests from its premises, including heavy disinfecting and sanitation of the environment in which it harvests, drys, cures, packages, and stores its products as well as heavy disinfecting and sanitation of the tools being utilized. Royal Resin is actively taking steps to move towards complete product homogenization to eliminate the chances of future contamination. By working with technology from companies like Willow Industries, Xenon Corp, and Innovative Solutions, Royal Resin will offer a safer and superior product.

Product affected by the voluntary recall bears the following information on its label and will have been sold prior to 12/9/2019.
